Week Notes 2026-31
I find them useful in terms of looking back over the past week to reflect on moments from my life, the media I’ve consumed etc, but by and large they are starting to feel a little performative. I’m posting them because I feel like I should because it’s part of the cadence of my website.
--Happily Imperfect, Farewell Weeknotes?; emphasis mine
I'm quoting Gordon here because I feel ever-so-slightly the same way. Not that my week notes are performative, but in a similar vein, I sometimes feel like I'm forcing myself to write them. Or that I'm writing them "because I've always written them"1. Having said that, I do enjoy looking back on the week and writing them, there are just weeks when I don't feel like doing it and wonder about doing them at all. It's a topic I will revisit in 2027.

What happened this week?
We didn't get a lot of softball in this week. Monday was a great night, but games were rained out Tuesday and our Wednesday opponent defaulted. That marks two Tuesdays in a row we haven't played, but given those are also the first Tuesdays we've been rained out (and I mean cancelled prior to playing, not shortened due to rain or lightning), I don't mind so much. Even though I really like to play softball, I'm at the stage in life where I'm not at all disappointed to get a night off.
Tuesday night my wife and I took a trip to Wal-Mart to pick up some bins for storing & sorting LEGO. I'm not sorting it by colour or shape, but right now just by theme. Castle + Pirates, Space + Star Wars, that kind of thing. I know in my heart that eventually all the pieces are going to be mixed together, as they were when my brothers and I were growing up and playing with LEGO. That's just the way it works.
I've also been cataloguing my sets on Rebrickable. I recently discovered that they show you what your collection is "worth", and apparently mine has risen to over $11k. Now, that is what it's "worth", not what it would necessarily sell for. I'm sure a lot of my sets are deceptively incomplete or not considered "pristine" condition, etc. etc. Plus, I'm not selling it anyway, it's just a fun number to look at.2

Bullet points
Health: I decided last week to take a break from food logging. There is a lot going on in my life in general that is leaving me mentally taxed; taking one thing off my plate (haha) will help.
Work: One of those things is work-related. We're taking on brand new tasks that we've never done before, and having to learn while doing. It's difficult, and more-so while working in an open-office environment. Headphones have been my friend these past two weeks.
Random: I learned about an AI detector app called Pangram. I don't know if this is something I'll use day-to-day, but it's certainly helpful for reddit (which is where I learned of it).
