Week notes 2026-27
I used to use my #echo tag for these posts, which triggers Robb's EchoFeed to automatically post to my Mastodon account. I decided this week I wouldn't bother—people will read these (or not) if they follow my RSS feed, or click through at random on Bubbles. I feel as though posting these notes to Mastodon is just cluttering up my own feed, and doesn't offer much of value1 to other people.
Meta blogging out of the way, here are my notes for the week.
- Canada Day happened this week! As is tradition, we had rain. Except we had a LOT of rain, enough to flood some streets (and parts of our major highway). There were wicked thunder storms as well, high winds, many downed trees, and a lot without power. We were fortunate to have power, although some weird wiring meant lights at the front section of our house—but the important plugs in our kitchen worked fine (stove, fridge).
- Since late last year I've been listening to the CBC Radio 3 Podcast from 20 years ago each week; last week I caught up to a few I missed while on vacation and heard a really neat interview with Hawksley Workman. I cut the interview for my friend, who is a big HW fan. Have a listen here.2
- Nerd/tech stuff: I set up a browser-based writing app using this repository: GitHub - josephernest/writing: Writing is a lightweight distraction-free text editor, in the browser (Markdown and LaTeX supported). · GitHub
- I welcome Andreas to the cassette rabbit hole!

I think I've written about this before, but I try to give back more to other people on the platform vs. promoting my own stuff, so that it's not just me shouting, "look at my stuff, everyone!".↩
