Tuesday Thoughts 10
This morning I finally emptied the ink from my BIC Crystal. I was writing in my journal and just as I started writing about how surprised I was that the pen hadn't died yet, it died! For reference, check out my original post.

I found a couple of new applications lately, both serving a different purpose.
FastStone Image Viewer: I took a lot of pictures1 during my recent trip to Prince Edward Island and I wanted to tag photos for printing (and editing, if necessary2). There's no easy way to do it with Windows' built-in photo viewer so I did some searching around. FastStone was the first recommendation for quickly marking—or rather, tagging—photos. Bonus, I could also use the \ key to tag them while using the arrow keys to search through photos.
Additionally, I can filter to tagged photos only when viewing so it will be easy to find the pictures I want to use. I'll also do this to further whittle down my chosen pictures to the ones I really want to print out. I'm saving all of them, regardless.
WaveEditor for Android: I heard an interview with Hawksley Workman from the June 16 2006 CBC Radio 3 podcast and wanted to cut the audio to send to my friend, who is a huge Hawksley fan. Originally I was going to hop on my Macbook and do it in Reaper, but my wife trapped me on the couch3 so I looked for a handheld solution.
WaveEditor was the top recommendation and I successfully cut the interview. The app was incredibly easy to use after I spent a few minutes figuring out how the controls worked. I was able to do this without looking up "how to use" guides. This will be handy for when I want to record podcasts on the go.

My employer recently offered voluntary departure / retirement packages to many employees, and three of my colleagues took them. That was about a month ago, and we finally had a farewell / celebration for them at a pub down the road.
It was nice to see some people who retired many years ago that I hadn't seen in a long time. The only downside was that it was incredibly hot yesterday and I sweat through my shirt. Gross.

Before our trip to PEI, we bought a new window AC unit for our bedroom. We installed our older one in a different window, so we used our existing no-drill bracket there. A new bracket would be $70-$80 CAD so I went a-searchin' for different solutions and came across this neat solution:

So - prior to leaving for vacation we bought a metal rod, cut it to the proper length, and tested it out. Sure enough, it's a perfect solution! We didn't install the unit because we needed something to block the rest of the window, but we recently picked up some 1/2" foam from Michael's and everything is in and running. Just in time for some oppressive heat & humidity this week.

Coming back to the office after nearly 2 weeks away was a little weird. I don't know if it was helpful or not that the building was very empty (it's hard to know who is on vacation vs. who took a departure package in other departments).

Between photos and video, I have at least 7GB in the folder. That doesn't include the photos my wife took on her phone, or the film I'm waiting to develop from my point-and-shoot camera.↩
I prefer to use the picture as-saved from my cameras, but in some cases I'll do some straightening and I know there are a few that are underexposed and could use some touching up.↩
Trapped lovingly, I assure you.↩
