Week notes 2026-07
Week notes 2026-07
What a weekend. Actually it was an eventful week as a whole, but all the fun stuff was packed into the long weekend (so I'm including Monday the 16th here...even though that's part of Week 08). Documented early in the week was learning that our car - after failing in the same spot on the highway the weekend prior as our other car - needs its engine replaced. We have a rental which we are tolerating, if not actively disliking1.
I got the results of my ultrasound on my right foot; the bump on it that necessitated the ultrasound is nothing to worry about - benign, likely some sort of ganglion.
Women's curling started at the end of last weekend so I have taken to unsubscribing from breaking news alerts from our local news website, as well as generally staying off Reddit and other social media to avoid spoilers (most games are starting at 3 in the morning!). Team Canada did not fare well in the opening games, but they're picking it up. Right now as I type they are tied with Sweden in the 7th and are making some great shots. Also this week was "boopgate" from men's curling - I won't get into it, but I'm glad it's moved on from "Canada's team are cheaters!" to very amusing memes.
Finally, the weekend: we went skating in our new skates on the canal Saturday, and walked around Winterlude sites Sunday and Monday. It was our first time making it to Jacques Cartier Park for the Snowflake Kingdom - and WOW, we were impressed with the size of both the park and the creations there (particularly the big ice mountain that featured a giant tube slide).
2026 projects and goals
I wrote about my health data this week so most of my health updates are there; I made some adjustments to my watch and I'll write about some of that later this week.
I didn't post anything to photos.srgower.com but I took a lot of pictures this weekend and I have some great stuff to post; the difficulty will be in choosing which photos to post. When I do that I'll edit them in Lightroom.
Speaking of Adobe projects, while this is not a goal per se, one of the things I'm dipping into is video editing. I created my first simple edit in Premiere of some cell phone videos I took on the weekend of this cool drum group and shared it on Instagram. This is a budding hobby.

It's a Toyota Rav4. It's somehow smaller than our Malibu despite being an SUV - so it was great for parking downtown this weekend and it whips around just fine, but the front seats are cramped and the cup holders are terrible.↩
