Another niche camera

I like to read The Hiro Report every week, even though it's geared to iPhone users and the apps mention rarely ever have an Android counterpart. And the Amazon links send me to the US site and I can't view them when switching to Canada unless they happen to have the exact same item. But that's a Me problem, not Hiro's.

But he also has links to interesting gadgets, and this week the one that drew my eye was the "Reloadable 35mm Film Camera" from Prism Lens FX. I'd never heard of this company but apparently they're well known for filters you can use for taking photos; I looked at some of them and they are pricey, so they're a product not for me.

This camera looks interesting. You'll notice I put the name in quotes, because that's the official name of the product. It's rather generic, and a tad confusing because a film camera (unless it's disposable) is, by default, reloadable. I think they need a better name, one that better represents what you're getting.

The camera itself isn't special - it's a fixed focus camera that acts very much like a disposable camera or a cheap point-and-shoot. It looks lightweight which is very desirable and would be an easy add-on to any camera bag. Heck, that's one reason I got my Pentax.

The difference here is that they have a cool magnet mount on the lens that allows you to swap between proprietary filters: Dream FX, Starburst FX, and Rose FX. Presumably they will sell more if the camera does well enough (which I think it will). For the camera alone, it's $49.99 USD. The best deal would be to buy the camera + 3 filters for $74.99. Unfortunately I'm not going to buy a kit, because it is as-mentioned in US dollars, and shipping is only free for US domestic orders. It's cost prohibitive, especially considering you can get roughly the same thing on Facebook Marketplace (just without the fancy filters).

I hope it does well, and I think it's a better product than the "I'm Back Roll" I talked about last week.
