New film camera

In my last thoughts post I said that I was ditching the Yashica MF-2 for a Konica Z-Up 120. I didn't end up buying the Konica, but instead came out of the weekend with a Pentax Espio 738G.1

I decided Friday that I was going to return the Yashica for a refund. Both cameras cost $40 (the Yashica was $39.99 + tax), so in all it would be a wash. But then on Sunday I got my photos from the Yashica back. I posted some samples on my photo blog. While many of the test shots in poor lighting conditions went as expected (poor quality, some majorly under-exposed) the shots I got in excellent lighting turned out amazing - for a fixed-focus camera that is.

So now I'm faced with a decision again. Should I stick with my plan and return the Yashica? I like what I got with it, and knowing its limitations I know I can get more good shots. I might try some 100 ISO film with it (the camera is only capable of using 400 or 100 ISO - there's a toggle). Apparently that is really good for bright & sunny conditions. Dunno.

Based on what I've just written above it sounds like I want to keep both! But now that I have the smaller, more compact Pentax I'll be leaving the Yashica at home when we go on our summer trip; I want to play around with film overall but I'd like to see what I can do in addition to our DSLR. The Yashica...I guess that's for play when size/weight isn't a consideration.

Hmm. Decisions, decisions...

  1. The seller of the Konica was very slow in responding and setting a meet-up date, so I found another camera on FB Marketplace and got it almost right away, same day. I read a brief review of the camera and was satisfied that it would work fine for my purposes!
