YouTubers Retiring

Content creation has been on my mind a lot recently. One of the things I especially worry about is for my fun hobbies to turn into "work" and lose enjoyment of it all.

So far this year I've been reading a LOT. 6 books completed and I have three on the go.

I was listening to Decoding TV over the weekend and there's a part in the most recent episode where David Chen and Jesse are discussing YouTube creators and why some of them decide to "retire" (approx. 12 minutes into the episode).

The general thought expressed was that some YouTubers decide to stop what they're doing because they've become a "brand" and have to become what boils down to a content mill, and that's not what they want. So they retire.

That discussion resonated with me, although I'm not a video creator. But the idea translates just the same across different mediums.

Anyway, food for thought.
