Week notes 2026-38
I'm sitting here in front of my desktop PC to type this, fresh from grocery store-bought dinner; beside me is my mid-2012 MacBook Pro, booted to Linux Mint from USB (it hasn't been installed yet, it's just the live drive). I have some tinkering to do; apparently you need to install a WiFi driver for this thing. Hmm.
Today I drove from my in-laws and had a couple of funny things happen:
- I encountered a driver who was driving extremely fast (probably 115-120 kmh in a 90 kmh zone), and eventually got way ahead of me. A few hours later, when I was in the city, I passed them.
- A little later in the day, I took our other car out and "stretched it out" on the highway, as it had been sitting for a week without being driven. As I drove by, I passed a transport truck I remember passing an hour or so earlier outside of the city.
I'm amused by these little things.
Happenings
I'm writing this post mostly from memory and bits from what I noted down in Obsidian, so I'm not being thorough. But why does that matter to anyone else but me?
- I posted some photos of bees that I took on Labour Day weekend
- And I shared a cool picture of a Cardinal Flower on Instagram!
- I did a bunch of tinkering with my new-to-me Macbook Pro; I've got it set up the way I want it to. Too bad I forgot the external SSD at my in-laws
- FINALLY I was able to find a pocket notebook. I've been wanting to try a new system for a while now, but haven't been able to find a pocket notebook (you'd think this would be easy to find). I'm 2ΒΌ pages in.
Misc stuff
- Found a winamp-inspired Obsidian theme, SilverGlass. It's really neat, and I like the custom callouts the user created. It looks fun on mobile but looks even better on desktop.
- πΊ Watched: Strange New Worlds "Once La'an A Time" β ββΒ½ β better than I expected but far too many gimmick episodes this season. Mount got something to do, at least.
- My wife wanted to start re-watching Gilmore Girls (prompted possibly by her getting a bunch of GG clips on TikTok) so we started with season 1. I'm not as familiar with this one so it's neat to see how nailed-down the visual style is in the first season. The directors are given a lot of freedom and take some fun shots. I think some of them are true one-take shots, but there are others that are probably stitched together. Fun fact: Adam Nimoy, Leonard Nimoy's son, directed the 2nd (or 3rd? I can't recall) episode.
