Week Notes 2026-06
Week Notes 2026-06
Olympics! That's the biggest thing that happened this week. Unfortunately I also succumbed to a cold (my wife had it first); I ended up working from home 3 days at the end of the week instead of infecting co-workers. Today I'm still battling it but I don't "feel" contagious. Oh, and earlier in the week I had some trouble with my car (post linked below), and then on Saturday - in the same spot on the highway - our other car completely lost power and we needed to call for a boost to drive it to the dealership to get diagnosed today. Still waiting to find out what happened, but that wasn't fun.
We bought new skates but because of the cold - and generally being wiped out from our colds - we didn't get out yet this weekend. It's supposed to "warm up" by the end of the week so perhaps we'll get out to a rink somewhere, if not the canal. It's the last weekend of Winterlude so maybe we can find something to do there, as well.
Bits and bobs:
- media (movies): watched The Fugitive (1993) on 4K, and I realized this is the first time I've watched it in full since I first watched it in 1993. There were quite a few things I didn't remember so I was genuinely surprised by some of the twists and turns. I very much enjoyed that Ford wasn't as far ahead of the US Marshalls (headed by Tommy Lee Jones) - in many places he was actually behind the manhunt. I felt it was realistic.
- media (TV): We're really enjoying Starfleet Academy, more than I thought I would. This week's episode was almost impossible to avoid spoilers but thankfully - as usual - they made me anticipate how it was going to be pulled off even more. I thought it was well done and I was still surprised by the episode.
- I've been meaning to watch "The Way of the Warrior" two-parter from Deep Space Nine since I listened to the episode commentary done by Transporter Room 3 last year, and I finally started after picking up the Season 4 DVD earlier this year. The quality of the DVD is leaps and bounds what I used to get on Netflix (even at 420p upscaled on the PS5), so I'm glad I did that.
2026 projects and goals
The only thing I really worked on was the ongoing health efforts. My weight on the scale was very steady at 245.2 most of the week, ending with 247.6 on the weekend. The trend weight is still 247.7 but that's down from 248.6 on Monday. Libra estimates I'll reach 245 lbs (goal weight) Feb 27th.
I don't think this was a stated goal but I wanted to get back to some physical hobbies instead of just video games. Sunday afternoon I started work on a puzzle that is somewhat frustrating because the pieces don't lock in. I made some headway on the "easy" part of it, the next part is a little harder.
