Week Notes 2026-03
I don't know how my week could top how it ended: watching The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in Concert. It's as it sounds - we watched the movie with a live orchestra performing the score. It was amazing, and I wish we had better seats. Of course I couldn't tell what it was going to look like when I bought the seats, but now we're prepared for when they come back and perform Return of the King next year.
Otherwise the week was quiet. We had a decent-sized snowstorm on Thursday but it only added 10 minutes to my commute home - we've driven through much worse. Either way I was prepared for the long-haul so I was able to stay safe. Knock on wood, I haven't seen any accidents in the last year (but a lot of close calls).
Also, Starfleet Academy (TV) was a lot better than I expected. Leagues better than the entirety of Strange New Worlds season 3. Oh, and I bought an inexpensive copy of Deep Space Nine season 4 on DVD, because Netflix Canada no longer carries Star Trek and I want to re-watch "The Way of the Warrior".
2026 projects and goals
I added another photo post! That makes 2 of 4 posts for the quarter. I don't have any recent photos in mind to post about but it's possible I have something older I never got around to sharing.
I finished my 2-week base line for my weight loss and health goals. Today I'm going to take a closer look at my macronutrients and start to make diet adjustments. It's not going to happen right away, this week is about getting my calorie target back on track. I think almost every day last week was above my calorie target.
Link Rolloff
Shared Links on Raindrop This is inspired by Jedda's post rolloff, removing a link from my bookmark list as I add new ones. It's a way to rediscover what I found and share them all over again.
- PTPL 126 · What the Dash-Plus System Looks Like in My OBTF and Analog Notes - Ellane W - I tried this very briefly last year and ultimately discovered it didn't work for me.
- Everyone says they want opinionated design until they get it - Seems like such a long time ago that "Liquid Glass" was released. I agree with the overall sentiment.
- CBC Radio 3 Podcast : Free Audio : Free Download, Borrow and Streaming : Internet Archive - Full archive of available CBC Radio 3 podcasts from the beginning (missing a few episodes at the start, anyway). I've been listening week-to-week "on this day" 20 years ago. Great music I either missed the first time around, or forgot.
- Netigen: The Unhurried Moment Solid writing from Courtney. "I want to ignore the ticking clock. I want to stand in the grocery store without a plan and let myself linger. I want to sit with my parents and talk about nothing, without glancing at my watch. I want to take the wrong exit on purpose. I want to browse without a goal. I want to rediscover the joy of not knowing where I’m going, and being okay with that."
- Mysterious carving found in northern Ontario wilderness | CBC News Always neat when new "old things" are discovered. A carving from the 1800s by a Swede working for the Hudson's Bay Company.
- Microsoft surprises MS-DOS fans with remake of ancient text editor that works on Linux - Ars Technica - At the time I thought this was a cool thing I'd use (I remember editing HTML files in a DOS editor) but so far that hasn't been the case. Since I still use plain HTML on my photo blog maybe I'll switch to this, instead of using VSCode.
- On Falls | Acts of Volition Good advice that applies to personal and work lives. Take two trips!
