Wednesday Thoughts 15

Having a hard time focusing today. Last night's not-great sleep has caught up with me quickly this morning. It started with almost forgetting my epilepsy medication, and continued with almost forgetting my work pass. I didn't leave the house without my meds, but did close & lock the door before I forgot my work pass. I wouldn't have been able to enter the parking lot, let alone the building, without it. "Lack of coffee" is the easy excuse to tell other people, but it's not my crutch - I drink it for the taste.

The proof is that caffeine isn't helping me keep my eyes open.

I discovered last week that I enjoy the monospace font "Cascadia Code" after seeing it used on someone else's website. I found out just today that Notepad / Windows supports this font. Upon testing out the changes I see that "Cascadia Mono" is the best choice in Notepad, specifically. Also, for kicks, I changed Notepad to "dark" mode and now it feels like I'm typing in command prompt.

(I was tempted to recreate the command prompt experience with blinking cursor mark (|) but I opted to skip that for a one-time dalliance.)

Hey, turns out writing out some thoughts is jolting my focus. Strange that writing in my journal did not.

I recently finished reading The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones; I enjoyed it a lot even though I felt the ending was soft. My problem now: picking my next book to read from the shelf. There are so many to choose from. I have a book of short stories by Isaac Asimov, maybe a standalone book without a single story might be a good palate cleanse.

Still reading: Star Wars Outlaws: Low Red Moon (audio book); The Mindful Photographer

The person who sits at the desk behind me irks me. He spends a lot of time talking on the phone and he's a walk-and-talk person: he walks around on the spot as he talks on the phone. He frequently talks about personal stuff with other people and loudly; and often takes meetings on his laptop without headphones. Little respect for the open office space.

I'm going for a walk as I type - will return later.

¶

That walk was fantastic. I listened to two chapters of Star Wars Outlaws: Low Red Moon and I timed my route perfectly and got through both of them; the timing of the route was accidental.

Funny how colds work. One day, you wake up and you have a cold. And then one day, you wake up, and you have zero symptoms.

I simultaneously feel bad that I haven't worked on many projects on the backburner, and accepting that I haven't worked on them. If I were truly invested in those projects they'd be done by now. Nobody is waiting for me to complete them - it's all self-induced pressure. So - yes, I would like to complete or get back to these projects, but I absolve myself of any pressure to complete them.
