Wednesday Thoughts 13

I'm taking a vacation day tomorrow (for my birthday - and before you ask, I'll be 42) so I doubt I'll be online in as much capacity as I am at work. That's a strange way to phrase things but lately that is the case for me, I simply have easier access to be online at work than I do at home. A laptop is (usually) more convenient than browsing on a phone or tablet.

Plus I think my moratorium on social media apps after I get home from work will somewhat apply tomorrow all day. Maybe.

I'm having fun building websites again. I'm not doing anything particularly special and haven't put any work into the design or style, but assembling posts documenting my puzzles, projects, etc. during idle moments at work has been fun. A short, easy side project that eats up some time but is also productive.

The temperatures are starting to rise again. I'm not ready to declare "Spring is here!" just yet because over the last few months of Winter we've had a lot of above-0 beautiful days followed by extreme cold weather spells. We're usually not out of it until May. But it's nice to be able to go out and enjoy a nice walk with just an outdoor vest and no gloves.

My CD shrinking progress is coming along nicely. So far I've emptied two of my 8 wooden crates. I anticipate I'll empty at least one more; I've also selected a few CDs I don't want to keep (I probably should have removed a few others, but I wasn't picky at the time).

I'm putting the project on hold until recycling day though, because our bins are full of jewel cases.

I'm struggling with my phone's new battery, which I bought last Saturday. I'm barely getting through a day - judging by the estimated battery life right now, it's not going to last me past 5:30 (I'm going to top it up, of course).

I've done two full power cycles and based on everything I've read and everyone I've talked to, I need to give it another few days for my phone to adjust to the new battery or something.

I don't know, I have half a mind to go back to the store I got it from and flex my 3 month warranty. But...it hasn't been 7 days yet. I think I'm going to give it until March 14 (2 week mark) and if I haven't seen any improvement I'm going to talk to them.

I mean, at this point the battery life is the same as before I replaced it. I don't have any apps sucking up battery power in the background from what I can see. Today, the highest source of battery drain was Pocket Casts - above 4%. Everything else is below 1%!

On the bright side, I think my phone has responded well performance-wise and is a tiny bit snappier. I'm putting off a factory reset if I can help it, because I don't want to set up accounts all over again. Next steps are to delete unused apps at least¹.
