Wednesday Thoughts 09
I haven't been in "writing mode" of late. I suspect it's mostly because we're now in the full swing of summer with three nights of softball every week1 and personal training on Fridays; and then other random trips that pop up here and there. It's not that I don't want to write, or "can't" write, it's that writing isn't my top priority at the moment.
I'm not even writing in my personal journal. I think I went 20-25 days between entries this month. So on that note I thought it best to "force" myself to get some words out.

Last week I felt really beat up after our second night of softball, and the third week overall. My thumb still hurt 4 weeks after the initial injury2, my feet were sore Thursday morning, and overall I felt physically drained. This changed this week; I still have another game to play tonight, but physically I feel great.
My legs have become accustomed to running the bases again, and the aches and pains are only present for a short time after the game. A good night's rest takes care of everything. I guess I just needed to get over the hump.

Speaking of a good night's rest...technically I haven't been getting that lately. This isn't anything new, softball nights tend to be later than normal and I still need to get up at 6am to get into the office the next day. Most of the time it's fine and I can get along with the day okay.
But this week I've been extremely tired, unable to properly concentrate at work. So far today (Wednesday) I'm not feeling it, but yesterday I could have fallen asleep in one of the comfy chairs in the kitchen area if I wanted to. Monday night and Tuesday night I went down for a nap and slept hard both nights.
I also have a cold - at the tail end of it - so I wonder if that's the reason I'm so tired. My body is just worn down, even though it's responding fine to the physical activity. It's just that the worn down immune system combined with not enough sleep has caught up to me.
Hopefully today is different. At least our game doesn't start until 9:45pm so lots of time to get rest in (between cooking dinner, probably playing NHL 25 with my buddy, and packing for an upcoming trip...).

A short time ago I decided to stop auto-sharing my blog posts via EchoFeed. I felt like I was doing too much self-promotion and not enough engaging with the community, both on Mastodon and Bluesky. But I also didn't necessarily want to share every post when I know there are people I know IRL that might be reading what I share (on Bluesky). It's a weird situation to be in - I want to share my stuff, but don't want people I know reading it. That seems messed up but I don't think I'm alone there.
I've found that responses to my posts have been subdued since I stopped sharing links. Granted, I haven't written as much (see my first thought above), but I feel that people aren't finding my posts as often as I thought might be the case.
So I reached a compromise. I set up a feed specific to a certain tag - echo
- that shares to EchoFeed. Now, only posts that I add that tag to get shared automatically. Everything else just goes through the RSS feed as normal. This seems like a good way to do it.

Crucial Tracks - a great social website for sharing music - recently started curating weekly community playlists. I don't know if this is done manually or not (I asked, waiting to hear back), but it's a great way to hear the music people are talking about if you're not keeping up with all the posts.
The only stumbling block is that the playlists are shared via Apple Music - a service I don't use. There's a way around that though - I found site that converts playlists from one service to another: Playlistor By Raymond Akornor
It's worked like a charm so far. I guess it uses APIs on both sides? I don't know. Or care. All I know is that it works.

Or if you prefer, find me on Mastodon. And there's also Bluesky!
