Wednesday Thoughts 06
Hello, here are some thoughts for Wednesday. Note that there are some spoilers for A Man on the Inside below...I pushed those thoughts further down the post.

Today was a slow drive into the office. Realistically speaking I should have worked from home today instead of spend nearly an hour in snow-covered roads. But my company is one of those organizations that have a mandaded hybrid office policy; meaning that I'm required to be in the office three days a week. I took a vacation day Monday, which means I would need to go in Friday to make up the day. But I'm already planning on going in Friday, because I'm going to be out of town for a few days next week and going to be making up those days.
I'm not the only one in this boat - Federal government employees in the city are likely doing the same, based on the volume of traffic. It is what it is, but I think corporations and governments should relax the leash a little on potentially dangerous travel days (I just read a few minutes ago about a car that left the road and crashed into a gas line).

I think I've made a decision about what to do with my Alternative Airwaves blog. I already set my domain to auto-renew (should happen in a couple of weeks), but the WordPress plan is $96 every two years, or $ 4/month. It's not as expensive as I initially thought (I thought it was $ 96 per year), but Brandon wrote about the micro.one plan and at $ 1 a month with WordPress import, it's hard to beat.
As you might guess, that's where I'm going to go. I had trepidations about it over the weekend but I'm past that now. At this point, I'm just trying to figure out how the import process works and which plan best suits my needs.

Speaking of Alternative Airwaves...I'm going to start writing about music again this year. I know, "I'm going to start" - I should be just doing it and not saying I will do it. But I'm at least waiting until I get up and running with migrating the blog. More importantly I'm going to change the positioning to talking about any music, not just "Discovering Independant music". That's still going to be a focus, but sometimes I can't tell what qualifies as "independant".

I've spent more time this week playing video games (specifically, NHL Legacy for the PS3) than "normal". I've spent so much time on my diamond art project that it's consumed much of my free time, when I could instead be playing video games, recording podcasts, writing, reading, watching TV/movies, etc.

A Man on the Inside - this is a show on Netflix from the creator of The Good Place, starring Ted Danson (with some small appearances from some actors that are also in The Good Place). I was excited to try watching it, but wasn't 100% sold on the premise after the first two episodes. It seemed like Only Murders in the Building-Lite.
But the season is short, just 8 episodes. It turns out that the investigation side of the show is merely an excuse to examine how the elderly are treated. Ted Danson's Charles, who has recently experienced the loss of his wife to complications due to Alzheimer's, is prompted to try something new by his daughter and winds up responding to an ad placed by a private investigator to inflitrate a senior's residence to look into the theft of a necklace.
Charles ends up befriending many of the residents, and gets the closest with Calbert - one of the best friendships on TV that develops very quickly. Charles experiences some changes and gets closer with his daughter in the end. And more proof that the investigation is secondary to the larger story, it gets solved within minutes of the final episode, and is entirely shoved aside to wrap up the emotional story.
It's a very self-contained short series, and works well on its own. There is a set-up at the end for a possible second season, but it doesn't have to lead to another season. You could end it where it ends without feeling like you need closure.
I recommend it, however unlike The Good Place, I don't think I would watch this one over again. I'm taking it off my watch list so I don't get caught up in a follow-up season that I don't think could top this one.
Update at 1:08PM: For some reason Bear Blog doesn't like it when you write $4
instead of $ 4
so I had to fix that.
