Wednesday Thoughts

I'm trying to figure out why I got away from writing these scattered "thoughts" posts; it's been a long time, but sometimes I feel like I'm adding some of these to my week notes. In any case, I like writing these when I'm at work and neglected to bring my journal with me.

I was inspired by Jedda's post about how she edits photos; specifically that she takes photos with her Fujifilm & Ricoh cameras using film sims that are apparently a huge thing for Fujifilm cameras. I like the idea of taking photos with on-board camera settings set to emulate film and not worry about post-process editing in Lightroom etc. So I got to looking around to figure out how to do the same thing with my cameras.

I have a Sony Alpha3000 (I think it's 3000, it could be 5000? Can't remember.), and of course my smartphone. I haven't had the chance to play around with the Sony camera but it seems like you can do similar presets; I'll test it out this weekend. I've experimented with my smartphone but the settings you can change are fairly limited compared to a full-blown camera, so you have to do a lot of post-process editing to get the desired looks. I'll probably not do that with my phone going forward.

We might be significantly less busy tonight than initially expected. It's been raining all morning (steady, but not a downpour). The result is a nice deep green colour to the grass, but it's dull and gray everywhere else. The hourly forecast doesn't look good for softball; every hour is showing rain of some sort. So I don't think we're going to get a softball game in tonight. Considering it was a 9:45pm start time, I'm not entirely disappointed.

Speaking of the rain, I often go for a walk to pick up a coffee (usually decaf, but on days like this, caf is in order); but it's raining today so I won't do that. I recently discovered a certain fast food chain is selling coffee starting at $ 1, and I'd love to drive over there to pick up something for $ 1.50. But because I'd drive over there, I would feel obligated to ask my coworkers if they wanted anything, and I don't feel like doing that. Is that bad? Just anti-social?

A while ago I got the spark of an idea for creating some cool things with cassette tapes - maybe distributing something as a zine? But I questioned the logistics of it, mainly in the sense that not THAT many people probably have access to a tape player. Then I thought, well why not include a cheap USB stick with it? I'm shying away from the idea of an audio product because paper is easier. But the fun thing is I am keying in on ideas and narrowing down things I want to do. And also always inspired by fun happenstance when it comes to these things.

Actually pursuant to the above today I had the brief thought of printing low-res pictures via my laser printer I got for free a few months back. I use it occasionally to print some small things, but as it's not WiFi-enabled I can't print on a whim. My work laptop also doesn't recognize the printer so I'm limited to using my personal computer, which I'm not on super often.

I've been really neglecting my "stats" when it comes to health tracking lately. I meant to make better use of my smart watch a while back but haven't been keeping on top of it. So yet again, my watch is collecting stats for no meaningful purpose. I think what I need to do is look at my stats the next day and write about it, rather than my original plan (which was to look at it weekly). I should go open up my OBTF health notes and do that now.
