Tuesday Thoughts 09
It's a race to see which day is next to 10 thoughts! Currently Wednesdays are leading at 15, with Tuesdays and Fridays now at 09. Saturday and Sunday are the stragglers, not even at 5.

I hit a grand slam last night at softball! It was pretty sweet. I came up to the plate, bases loaded, 2 outs; the catcher from the other team was lightheartedly razzing me ("no pressure!" etc.), but I stayed stoic at the plate. It's not that she was bothering me or getting to my head, it's more that I'm terrible at dealing with strangers and really had no idea what to say. Sometimes I joke around in return, but I wasn't feeling it last night.
So there I was, standing ready for the first pitch. In a lot of at-bats I let the first pitch go, opting to get a feel for the pitcher's arc and figuring out how I want to attack. But this first pitch was in a perfect spot. Just slightly outside, and the height was almost exactly where I like to hit the ball. So I swung at the first pitch, and the ball sailed over the fence in right-centerfield.
Mic drop.

I can't remember what prompted me to install Markor on my phone recently, but I found the app in F-Droid while I was doing some work. Previously I used an app called SimpleText (or something similar)—it did the trick, but after using Markor I immediately uninstalled it. Markor is very versatile and can work with different formats (such as Markdown, HTML) and depending on what type of file you're using, has syntax highlighting to make things easier to read.
The last couple of weeks I used it to copy the source syntax for my week notes because copying from Obsidian is more difficult than it should be. I'm able to open the same file and do a quick 'select all' and 'copy' and paste into a new blog post on Bear Blog.
It has me wondering now: do I need Obsidian? Has it outlived its usefulness for me? I like the friendly UI but I'm not using it for anything that "needs" to be in Obsidian. At this point it's a pretty wrapper. I love it for my MLB tracker but for personal use I'm not sure it's necessary.
Don't get me wrong—having my server using Syncthing to sync files between my server and computers is very handy, but I still don't need to use Obsidian for that. I can still automate things and use templates with BASH scripts.
I'll have to think about this a little longer.

Is this post going to bother Michael? (I kid.)

We have a vacation coming up—a real vacation, as in I'm not just taking time off, we're going somewhere—and we had a list of things we needed to do to get ready to go away. From what I can see, we crossed off every single one of them by end of day yesterday. Well, except for one list item that's about planning some things to do during our trip, but we plan on talking things out while we drive and also when we get to our destination (the first night will be settling into our rental, probably going out for some groceries and figuring out our location in relation to all the places we want to go).
What I'm saying is, it feels really good to finish a to-do list in its entirety.

I listened to a podcast episode this morning and realized that I'm in a good spot when it comes to my number of subscribed episodes. Not too long ago I deleted some feeds that were giving me anxiety; they were feeds that I felt that I needed to listen to ASAP before they became stale / out-dated, but they were also usually an hour in length. They were too long for me to listen to in a "timely" manner. I dropped them, and now I only have two time-based podcasts. They're both sports podcasts that cover my favourite teams, but they're in opposite seasons—hockey and baseball. The baseball podcast usually runs less than an hour and that's a big plus.
Everything else is something I can listen to at my leisure.
