Thursday Thoughts 03
I have a short week at work, so writing has been a little tricky to fit into my schedule between being actually busy and working ahead. Here are some thoughts!
¶
I'm off for 4 days starting tomorrow (Friday); Tuesday and Wednesday were relatively light, even though I was working ahead. Fast forward to today: everyone seems to be waking up and realizing it's the end of the week, and sending things our direction as if they were trying to win a short track speed skating race. Some weeks it would be really nice if the work was spread out. Unfortunately that's not always possible in radio.

I've been trying to tweak my Galaxy Watch 8 Classic settings to extend battery life, opting to change my heart rate sending to every 10 minutes and turning off continuous stress measurement (the results of this are dubious at best, I might as well measure manually to check in on myself). I changed some settings on my phone as well and I think I've seen some success. My battery was relatively low last night when I was making all of these changes and the life was showing 1 day and some hours in change; as I type this it's at 81% and showing 1 day 10 hours. I think it was a success.
However I think I'll still need to charge the watch daily, but it's good to know I've been able to stretch it out a little bit longer.

Speaking of tech batteries, I found a wireless repair store that will change the battery on my phone for $95 CAD + tax. The last store I called quoted me something like $150 plus tax. The former price is much more palatable and will get that done sometime next weekend. In addition to a phone that lasts longer than a day, I hope that it will help with phone performance a little bit.

Gobino recently moved a subset of his blog posts to Pagecord as a place to post small "bits" - quick photos, little notes about books and media, etc. I feel that this is a great use for Pagecord (I have one, but it's currently anonymous) and I'm going to set something up to document my various projects. I'm thinking LEGO sets, puzzles, models, etc. This is one of those "when I get around to it" plans, because I want to export current posts, change the name of the blog (why is this always so difficult?), and then find the various pictures and updates I've made over the last couple of years for the projects I've completed.

In another corner of the Internet, Matt has an interesting set up in his weeknotes: weekly goals. I really like this idea and I'm going to implement it for my next set of weeknotes. I already have a section for my overall goals for 2026 but I think refining it to weekly goals will help narrow my focus. I can set weekly goals toward my yearly plans but also pick things that maybe aren't part of my "official" goals but happen to be something I want to do that week.
I'm probably saying this in a way that makes no sense and overthinking it but in my head, it makes sense.

We're 8 weeks into 2026 and that means 8 weeks of using a pre-printed planner (Moleskine 2026 softcover planner) as opposed to a blank bullet journal-style system. Over those 8 weeks I've had mixed feelings about using it. Some weeks I felt like it wasn't working and that I was writing fewer notes than I would if I were using a blank notebook (and that's true for some weeks!). But the last two weeks I have been getting just as much out of it as I was with a blank notebook so I think this is a successful experiment to date.
I'll check in at week 26 and then at the end of the year.

One thing that isn't working is journalling. Not in the sense that journalling doesn't work for me, but that I'm not being consistent with it. Once I'm done posting this and knocking off some work to-do items, I'm going to crack out the notebook.
