The New Era of the Blog Salon

This is wild. In a week, I've seen three new posts about the same topic: "personality of a personal blog":

  1. I am a poem I am not software - Robin Rendle
  2. The personality of a personal website - Manuel Moreale
  3. Re: The Personality of a Personal Website - Brandon Writes

And this isn't the first instance of this kind of thing happening. Last week (I think it was last week) it was about original writing - a few people wrote about the topic. A little bit before that, imposter syndrome was the topic du jour.

I'm saying this as a good thing. It means people are reading each other's blogs and riffing off of each other. I'm not saying we're high intellectuals here, but it definitely reminds me of the idea of salons1 and I think it's cool that we have something virtual going on that's apart from email exchanges and pen pals.

A lot of these posts are coming from fellow Bear Bloggers which is even cooler since there's no comment boxes and we all rely on either following RSS feeds or checking out the discover feed (which I do every now and then to see new bloggers joining the fold).

Great new era.

  1. I thought this was exclusively a male domain, but that wiki article is first about women - but it sounds like men took over. As usual.
