Sunday thoughts 03

I swear, the dumbest drivers were out all at the same time today, in force. It started in the drive-thru (I know, I should walk inside), and continued to the first major intersection I came to with a driver constantly inching forward to the point where I said aloud, "why not just go through the red light at this point?" To nobody but myself, of course.

Later it continued with someone who parked so crookedly next to me their passenger front end was angled toward my car. You better believe I opened my door and bumped it against theirs. No sooner did I get into my car then an inexperienced driver (I'm not calling her dumb...clearly a new driver with her mom) was trying to pull a minivan into too tight of a spot. The dumb driver part was when the mom kept staring at her van trying to guide her daughter in; I had to get out of the car and tell them I was trying to leave, it will make things easier for them.

Reminds me of the adage I once heard, "A good driver sometimes misses their exit. A bad driver never misses their exit."

I was going to make an entire post about this, but I decided to pour my energy elsewhere for writing. Friday I listed my first Ko-Fi for sale: a cassette mixtape featuring two edited episodes of the CBC Radio 3 Podcast from 2005. It's a minimum $2 (plus shipping to North America), $5 guarantees you a Type II tape1.

Véronique bought the first copy and I mailed it out yesterday - I can't wait to hear her reaction.

If you have a cassette player or know somebody who does, maybe this is up your alley.

I created a Pagecord account. I agonized for far too long trying to decide what I wanted to do with it, and in the end just pulled the trigger. What's it going to be? I don't know. Right now, nothing - there are no posts.

What I'm thinking is unorganized thoughts that vary in length, on any topic. If I happen to like something I post there I'll re-share it here on this blog. I tend to try to organize my thoughts a little better on this blog, so the other one will be a lot looser.

I called it "unfiltered thoughts". I'm not attaching my name to it and I won't be sharing it on social media, but if you come across it...it's me.

I made what I think is my best notebook to date earlier today. I followed this YouTube video, but omitted the cereal box part. I tried it last night with a pocket-sized notebook but didn't like the way it turned out; I do like the cardstock covers though so that's what I stuck with for this one today. Mainly I used it to figure out the stitching.

What I learned from this attempt was that I much prefer using regular sewing thread for binding. I'll just double-up on it when I make my next one.

Speaking of, I'm doing all of this so I can make a custom notebook for my wife. We both love notebooks and pens, and I think this will be a lot neater and more meaningful than any other notebook I could buy for her. The idea is to time it for our anniversary in September.

I think that's all I'm thinking about right now. I just came back from the grocery store, and other than picking up some dog food before 7pm tonight I've done all my outside-the-house chores (it's HOT out there!). I'm going to read/watch TV/play video games for a little bit before I get started working on anything else.

  1. Type II is a higher quality tape than Type I. They're also very rare these days; I was lucky to find a pack of unopened Type II tapes. I also have some old Type II tapes I need to record over from college days.
