Sleep data and other data points

Over the last 2 and a half weeks I've made notes about my sleep in an attempt to...actually I don't know what I can do with the data. It's not like I can "work out" to sleep better or fix my calorie intake like when I'm losing weight. But I wanted to be better informed about how I feel in the morning vs what my sleep stats tell me.

In most cases the stats lined up with the feels (as the kids say). Here's the data I recorded up to today, I'll share some thoughts after. The numbers are total sleep time / actual sleep time according to recorded Samsung Health data.

Monday May 25 2026 - 7h19m / 6h5m. Score: 58. Was definitely awake a lot during the night. Tossing & turning. Not completely restful.
Tuesday May 26 2026 - 5h5m / 4h27m. Score: 53. Not a great sleep, but better than last night.
Wednesday May 27 2026 - 6h8m / 5h26m. Score: 61. I was still awake a lot during the night but I feel I slept better.
Thursday May 28 2026 - 5h2m / 4h28m. Score: 65. That's just what was recorded. Woke up after 4am not feeling well & took a while to sleep again. Very rough night.
Friday May 29 2026 - 7h36m / 6h44m. Score: 66. Not a great sleep, woke up during the night. But not sick.
Saturday May 30 2026 - 8h33m / 6h21m. Score: 56. Better sleep but could feel better overall.
Sunday May 31 2026 - 9h36m / 8h28m. Score: 78. Last night's sleep felt restful. Best all week.
Monday June 01 2026 - 8h9m / 7h15m. Score: 80. Felt pretty good. Helpful for the long drive home.
Tuesday June 02 2026 - 7h2m / 5h43m. Score: 62. Looks like I was awake a lot last night. I remember waking up for a somewhat extended period, when V got up. But overall I feel rested this morning.
Wednesday June 03 2026 - 6h24m / 5h28m. Score: 70. Sleep was alright. Took melatonin bc of the earlier nap + being up late for softball
Thursday June 04 2026 - 7h25m / 6h40m. Score: 85. First time my score matches how I feel. Sleep was good. I could have stayed down longer but only because I was comfy, not that I needed it. I was awake a lot, though.
Friday June 05 2026 - 8h3m / 7h14m. Score: 86. That was a nice sleep. I woke up after 12am and then later in the morning but it was a good sleep overall.
Saturday June 06 2026 - 8h49m / 7h31m. Score: 86. A lot of time awake during the night but I feel well rested overall.
Monday June 08 2026 - 6h42m / 5h57m. Score: 71. That score feels generous. I didn't get to sleep for a while last night. Wasn't the greatest sleep.
Tuesday June 09 2026 - 7h9m / 6h28m. Score: 79. I think I had a good sleep. I could have slept longer this morning but would have been late for work.
Wednesday June 10 2026 - 7h38m / 6h54m. Score: 79. That was a good sleep, I needed it. I didn't want to get up this morning, because my body is tired vs needing more sleep.
Thursday June 11 2026 - 7h18m / 6h18m. Score: 81. I don't feel like I slept well. I'm going to need a nap this afternoon.

From when I started recording (end of May) to this morning, it looks like my sleep got progressively better! It is mostly coincidence though, as I didn't change very much to do this. The exception is, of course, Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday because of softball. The late nights harm healthy sleep.

More importantly, it's helpful to take notes on my sleep each day; it helps me stay in tune with how I feel in the morning, even if there's not much I can do about when I go to sleep (softball) or when I wake up (work).

I will continue to take notes for my sleep but I also want to add notes on my daily food logging. At the moment I'm not doing anything except for mindlessly logging food; even though I'm trying to stay under my calorie goal, I'm not making adjustments when I do go over or note down what I could do differently, or analyze my macronutrients.

So I'm going to do that, but I need to grab another notebook1 because I don't have to space to do that kind of reflection in my planner—and I don't want to type things out in Obsidian on my phone.

The only other thing I want to track would be my energy score vs how I actually feel. Samsung Health generates a daily energy score and it's laughably unhelpful, but I'd like to compare what it tells me to how I feel. Maybe it can give me a baseline of sorts to quickly judge against the score; more likely I will turn off those notifications because they don't tell me anything useful :P
