Ridly Greig Did Not Deserve a Cross-Check to the Face
On Saturday night, the Ottawa Senators beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3. It's an otherwise uninteresting result, unless you're a Senators fan (I am). But controversy arose when in the dying seconds, Senators forward Ridly Greig took a slap shot to the Leafs' empty net to ice away the game.
Toronto player Morgan Rielly took exception to this act and cross-checked Greig in the face.
I don't argue that Greig was showing up Toronto. His slap shot is something that you'd see happen in a video game. I expected some pushing and shoving after the goal / whistle, that's normal.
But a cross-check to the face? That's a bit unhinged. What's even weirder were the media personalities defending that particular hit. Not defending the intent, but basically saying that the hit itself was warranted.
It's mind boggling. I sure hope Riley gets some kind of suspension.
