More car troubles
Remember last week, when I wrote about my car troubles? That was tame. My mechanic looked at it on Thursday and it had something to do with a sensor, and we're waiting for a part to come in - I should be able to get it repaired next Thursday, or earlier if it arrives sooner.
Well...I can one-up that story. On Saturday my wife and I were going out and about, starting our day nice and slow. We stopped by a local skate shop and picked up a new pair of skates each - these "Softec" skates that aren't as stiff as hockey skates, and a lot more comfortable. We haven't used them yet, but we're looking forward to when we can.
From there we thought about where we wanted to go - we wanted some lunch, and there was a store my wife wanted to visit. We opted to go to a mall in the city's west end, for a bit of a drive. We got on the highway, and...in almost the same spot as last Tuesday, we had some car trouble.
This time was a lot more dangerous. As we were driving, a message flashed on the dashboard: Press start again. OK, odd. Never seen that before. I pressed the start button and the dashboard and infotainment screen all shut off. I pressed it again and they lit up, but I had no power. I moved all the way over to the right so that I could turn the car off and try to reset the whole thing.
I was able to start the car again, but acceleration did not sound right at all. Within seconds I had no power to the engine - pressing the gas pedal did nothing. I had to use what little momentum we had left to pull over to the side of the highway again; I put the car in park and turned the car off (I guess it was already off?). I tried turning it on again but nothing happened.
We ended up calling for a tow truck, who gave us a boost first - and offered to drive behind us as we drove to the dealership to drop the car off, in case anything happened to us on the way there. Luckily nothing did - we dropped the car off, waiting until Monday for the service department to diagnose the problem.
Late yesterday afternoon they called back to say the engine had seized, and needs to be replaced. Did I mention this is a 2023 vehicle? We bought it used, at the end of 2024. Thankfully this repair is covered under warranty but as I write this, there's no estimate for when it will be complete. I'm waiting for a call from them this morning.
But man...what a week. What are the odds of both cars having trouble at the same spot on the highway in the same week? And that the newer car is the one that would need the engine to be replaced?
