Monday Thoughts 02

Uh, so here I am searching my thoughts tag list thinking I had more than one thoughts posts for Mondays; it turns out that's not the case! So here's #02.

Over the weekend I read Brandon's review of "The Tools"; it's a psychology book and - well, you're better off reading the review. I thought the subject matter was fascinating so I gave it a shot.

I'm not entirely sold on the idea, and think it's a little hokey - but I'm giving it a shot. There are 5 tools and I think 6 or 7 chapters? So should be easy enough to read before it's due back at the library. The first tool is "Reversal of Desire" (that's as far as I've read) and I find the practice of using the tool, literally, to be really weird and probably not something I would do; but the basics of it is: take something you're avoiding doing because you're in a Comfort Zone and plow through it.

I only mention it today because I was going to mention some books I borrowed from the library without mentioning the books because I didn't want people to judge me based on what I've checked out. So I'm going to tell you about them.

Those books. After checking out The Tools: Transform Your Problems into Courage, Confidence, and Creativity I had some other topics on my mind based on personal stuff, so I looked up two more books:

I won't go into why I want either of these because sometimes privacy is a good thing, it's a big enough step for me to list the titles themselves for people to see.

Anyway Only the Bené Brown book was available, and was available as an eBook OR an audio book; I decided to try the latter since I have a few other reads on the go and sometimes it's nice to switch things up. I placed a hold on the eBook for the other. Waiting game.

So far Rising Strong is good, I think I'll buy a copy for my wife (it helps also that she enjoys Brown as an author).

Often times it feels pointless coming into the office. Very few other people are here. Supposedly next week is the start of our 4-day in-office schedule (increased from 3 days) so we'll see how busy it gets. I know it's one of those whiny "it's not fair" comments but it sometimes annoys me that I have to make the effort to come into the office and there are others who coast without consequence.

I wanted to update my weight loss progress without making a whole post about it. This morning I weighed in at 246.0, down from 248.0 (my low from last week was 246.3); the trend is down to 246.9 from 247.0. Pretty good! Especially considering I measured and tracked nothing on the weekend again, and I know I ate some salty food - which is what tends to cause water retention which causes the scale to jump. I have some work to do but this looks promising.

I don't mind if I take a break on weekends, as long as I do my best during the week to stick to my goal. It's a little demoralizing to see my calorie number blow out of proportion on weekends and I like to think that taking a regular break is good on the mind.
