Looking Back on June 2024

A quick disclaimer: I'm trying to avoid this being a review post in the same way I write my week notes. That feels like a duplication of efforts to me and I don't like duplicating efforts.

I don't know about everyone else but June was a 5-week month for me (at work, at least). One of the biggest things I did last month was take part in #Junited 2024. That link will bring you to the original post written by Robert Birming to suggest the month-long blogging "event"; there's a link to my contribution at the top of this page and will stay in my nav bar for a little while longer.

The idea of "Junited" is actually quite simple - post a link (either to a blog, or a specific blog post) every day. Before it even started I felt a bit of stress; would I even be able to pick 30 links?? Eventually what I did was start a note in Google Keep where I would paste links that resonated with me in some way. At first I tried to include unique links, without repeats, but I wound up giving up on that idea. So in my list you will see some repeat blogs and names. I did make an effort to avoid posting just a single link to their web page if I was going back to the well multiple times so to speak.

In any case, it was fun to find links and share them with people! I also tried my best to give a brief write-up of why I was sharing the link. One of my pet peeves is when people drop a link without any context. Tell me why you're suggesting this link to me, please! Anyway, I have been trying to share more things I've read in recent months so this was a good kick-start to doing it. I'll try to keep up with it.

Robert has a new theme month suggested for July called "July Reply". It's also a fairly simple idea but I don't think I'm going to "officially" take part this time around. I do this often enough on my own, but I don't want to put pressure on myself to make sure I get a "July Reply" written and maybe do something half-hearted just to say I did it.

Looking back at what I posted in the month of June, I see that I wrote 15 blog posts! There were some weeks where I was very prolific - a lot on my mind, I guess. And this is not counting my Week Notes, in which I actually write quite a bit for a bullet-point list of things I did in the previous week. And other than posts, I changed up the themes for both my blog and personal website to give it a nicer look; I received compliments on both so I'll take it. Of course, I couldn't do it without MGX's themes.

I had some micro goals for the month - among them was to write 2 paragraphs in my Epilepsy Essay. I didn't make it but I put it back on my list of goals this month. Beyond that, I had some other goals:

I missed one day for brushing my teeth in June (the 19th, if you want to know!) and three days for logging my meals; for the latter that was due to being out of town for a funeral so our normal routines were out the window. That being said I think these goals count as "reached" to me, so they're not part of my July micro goals. At least not completely...

My lone micro goal for July is to log all of my meals, 7 days a week. The plan is to expand that goal in August to staying within my calorie budget every day (or maybe Mon-Fri...we'll see).

Other than that - I finally have closure on my cassette deck. I talked to the repair shop last week over the phone and was informed they're not going to fix it (and they were surprised nobody called me). So at some point soon I'm going to retrieve it from the shop, and probably just give it away to someone who has the time and ability to fix it up themselves. In the meantime, I have a lead on a couple of decks in working order, and not for an expensive price tag. I'll see how that goes!
