Clearing out my "links for later" folder
I save my bookmarks on Raindrop so that I can remain browser-agnostic. I'm hopping between browsers almost all the time, mostly on mobile, so I wanted a way to keep my bookmarks intact while being able to do that browser hopping. One of the things I do is keep a sort of "inbox" for new bookmarks—a "links for later" category. I don't tag these with anything, and they could be anything, from something I want to read later to a useful tool I haven't had time to look into yet.
So here we are, a link post to clear out my 'for later' pile. I try to record where I found the link, but I usually forget. Most of these are from other bloggers. If I remember, I will note it with the referring link (if I can find that).
- Postcard History | Smithsonian Institution Archives—I thought this was something neat to read, and I was right! And today I learned of the word "deltiology".
- Non Alcoholic Beer - Beer Grains—A local store that sells beer, but more importantly for me, a wide selection of non-alcoholic beer not available at grocery stores. A friend sent me this link, so that makes two stores I know of that carry a wider variety.
- LEGO MOC-248059 77256 Time Machine with Folding Wheels + Studless Hood Option by firefabric | Rebrickable - Build with LEGO—I was doubly disappointed when the LEGO Speed Masters DeLorean set didn't convert between BTTF 1 and 2 models (without removing parts and re-building at the final stages), and then by the fact that the BTTF 3 version (the car retro-fitted with 1955 parts) was unavailable. I was directed to this custom instruction set for both folding wheels, AND a BTTF 3 model.
- Introducing Pure Blog - Kev Quirk—Another blog platform, and it looks like it can be self-hosted. Something I want to look into.
- Real Life in Star Trek, The Homecoming | Entropy Arbitrage—I have no idea where I found this, but it's an interesting write-up of one of three great DS9 episodes. It raises some valid points about how an early 90s show was written to include bigotry and sexism without much thought. Brings to mind how different these ideas are handled today.
That's it for now, I will probably try some more of these at a later date.
