Friday Thoughts 09

I messed up my back this week; I'm working out of a different office this week and sat in someone else's chair that wasn't in the office. I didn't want to adjust the seat to mess it up for them, but I can't figure out how to do it anyway. I should have kept a better posture and sat in it "properly" but I was very lazy and slouchy which resulted in hurting my back. I'm managing it with higher-strength pain relief pills but I was stupid to sit the way I did on Wednesday.

I normally ignore ads served to me on Instagram, but I came across this website for LEGO knock-off builds of Calvin & Hobbes sets; it's very tempting to buy one (probably the Spaceman Spiff set).

I can't wait to get my film rolls developed for the Yashica MF2; I want to know if I can take good pictures with it before loading another roll! Or returning it to the store I bought it from and finding something different. I know the limitations - fixed focus, you need decent-to-good lighting - and some of my test shots were in such conditions. That's all I want it for. I'm back home next week so I'll be dropping it off early in the week.

Speaking of photography tools, I'm waiting for some better flying conditions to practice flying my drone. I tried it out a few times this week but I need more open space - where I am, there are a lot of trees and a few wires. There's a wide open park near my house that I'll get in some flying hours. My friend wants to have a drone outing together so maybe I'll be able to arrange something with him.

Additionally, I bought a little battery charger so that I don't have to charge them through the drone itself, and I'm disappointed to learn that it doesn't work - despite user reviews indicating general happiness with it. I provided feedback to the seller about it but I'm still going to return the product. Sucks that it didn't work but not much to be done about it.

I wrote about the idea of starting a newsletter and a thought occurred to me this week: that's just not my style. The reason I can't think of "what kind of newsletter" to do is because...that's not my writing style. Not that there's a specific style for newsletters, I guess? This blog could be a newsletter! You could convert my RSS feed to an email, or more fun, send my feed (or any feed) to your Kobo.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm just not going to worry about it, and keep writing here. Another thought: if a barrier is feeling the pressure of regular updates, then sticking to a blog that I post to on a whim without adhering to a strict schedule is best for me anyway.

Since we're in Q2 of 2026, my list of albums listened to in Q1 2026 is complete; on my to-do list is to either write or record a podcast about them (or both).

I should have mentioned this a long time ago: Meadow put a fun word game on his website: Harvest. I've been playing it daily and it's a fun challenge that you can drop in and out throughout the day. Unfortunately because I had to switch browsers on my phone, I lost my streak and record of previous words (that's OK though! Streaks are overrated.) but now that I've started using the new browser the game functions perfectly.

Some of the words I miss are super obscure which kind of sucks, because if you don't know them there's no way to guess them. I don't like the idea of randomly typing letters just to see if I can find the obscure word.
