An Almost Anonymous Blog

Friday Thoughts 05

This blog is available to read via RSS feed, and also new posts go directly to Bear's Discover feed(unless I set make_discoverable: false). I also use a service called Echofeed, which "listens" to the RSS feed and automatically shares new posts to Mastodon and Bluesky. This is a great service created by Robb Knight and I love it.

But this week I thought about turning Echofeed off for my new posts. I feel that sharing my posts this way is a bit spammy, and there's also a part of me that doesn't want some of my posts shared for people I know (on Bluesky). It seems silly, considering I want people to read my posts. However it might be better to turn off the automatic sharing, and just share things that I want to highlight. I don't need to share every short post about random things or highly technical processes.

So, after sending off this Thoughts post, I'm turning it off.

Last week I finally hit Inbox Zero in my Gmail inbox. I may have explained how I work with email before, but I'm not positive. The short version is: everything in my inbox is a to-do item. For example, bills; once they're paid I archive them into my bills folder. I've got an email right now about a softball practice this weekend; once that's done I'll archive that to the folder I have set up for that individual team.

Anyway there was one last item waiting for me in the inbox and I dealt with it. I'm unreasonably proud of this feat. Unfortunately as I type this I have four items: the aforementioned softball practice email, an email with our Wednesday softball schedule, and two bills.

Today is Bandcamp Friday! Last time I participated - March - I bought Dan Mangan's latest album; today I'm buying Divorce - "Drive to Goldenhammer". I wish that they had a physical release, but I at least was able to get the album and send the proceeds directly to the artist. At £5 (GBP) you can't beat that for an album. I donated a little more.

I also gave another listen to one of the albums on my wishlist: "Sorry I Haven't Called" by Vagabon. I enjoyed the album (maybe you might too!) but unfortunately it's not a "purchase" for me. I'll listen to some others and see if I want to purchase anything else. I will probably continue buying the digital versions to get the most bang for my buck. One I just decided on as I type is "Big Dream" by Broke Royals.

I'm giving OpenVibe another chance. The app combines Bluesky and Mastodon into one place (and Threads, but I haven't turned that in), making it easier to jump between timelines.

They've made some significant strides and improved the app since I stopped using it. I don't necessarily like the timeline view that jumbles both apps together, but you can view separately by app. I'll give it a go for a week.

This past week I turned the difficulty level on NHL 25 (PS5) down to "Rookie" because my fun season mode where I paired all the NHL brothers on the same team wasn't any fun yet - I wanted to have high scoring games. Well...rookie mode is too easy. I played a game where I won 2-1, but the shots were something ridiculous like 37-10. I dominated the offensive zone. There should be a kind of half mode in between that and the next level up.

I'm happy though that this game is presenting me an actual challenge and that I don't have to tweak the settings as I did in NHL Legacy (PS3). Another thing I did - though I don't know how often I'll play - is set up a Be A Pro player. Philip (J.) Fry, playing for the Anaheim Ducks, wearing #74. I made him a Left Winger sniper. I have no expectations.

Also - I need to play more MLB The Show 24.

Or if you prefer, find me on Mastodon. And there's also Bluesky!
