Backtracking on goodreads
Umm. So last week I said I was going back to Goodreads; the impetus was a neat workflow I discovered on another blog (links are all there!). Call it an "oooh, shiny!" moment where I saw a neat workflow that somebody was using and I thought it might be something I can use.
Well, it's not. The primary reason is that I truly do not want to get sucked into tracking books that way and become obsessive about it. You might argue that I'll be obsessive about it in a private space, but hey, at least that's for my eyes.
Secondly, the workflow just doesn't work for me. I tried it. I use Obsidian primarily from my phone, and the Booksidian plugin does not function on mobile. I even tried a trick where you change the manifest.json
entry that enables the plugin on a phone, but that did not work. My point being, if I want to add a book to my vault I have to wait until I'm at my home computer and run the plugin to pull from the RSS feed.
And then there's the issue that it's not very easy to edit the Booksidian templates (from what I can tell). A better solution for me is going to be using the Obsidian Web Clipper application and modify the .JSON
file for the clipper to give me the exact template I want that way.
So, that's that. I used Goodreads for a brief period last week, and now I'm not.
